Timberline Lodge/Mt. Hood, OR to CLOSE Early for 1st Time in 10 Yrs. Legendary Timberline Lodge ski resort on Mt. Hood, OR will be closing early this season on August 2nd for the first time in decade. Timberline almost always stays open until the end of September (Labor Day) and has the longest season in North America by far. The last time Timberline closed early was on August 18th, 2005. Timberline averages over 400″ of snowfall per winter but this year they only got 297″. That lack of snow is what has lead to the early closure this year. Only 1 Ski Resort STILL OPEN in North America: Arapahoe Basin, CO closed for the season yesterday. Now there is only one ski resort open in North America, but soon there will be two. Whistler Blackcomb will be opening up for summer glacier skiing on June 20th. They’ll stay open until July 23rd. Itโs too bad that Beartooth Basin, summer-only ski resort, will not be open this summer. Killington, VT was planning on staying open weekends in June, but warm weather melted the snow off Superstar this past weekened and they’re now closed for the season. There are now only 3 ski resorts left but they are all open daily this week. Arapahoe Basin extended their season last week adding on extra weekend on Jun 12-14th.
