Caltrans will close U.S. 395 from Cartago (20 miles south of the junction with SR 136) to the Junction with SR 190 in Olancha 24 hours a day, Monday, May 1 through Friday, May 5. A detour will be available for traffic on U.S. 395 using State Route 136 out of Lone Pine and State Route 190 out of Olancha. This detour will add approximately 11 miles of travel. Flaggers will be posted at both junctions 24 hours a day to redirect traffic.

Crews from Fisher Sand & Gravel will make emergency repairs to state highway drainage infrastructure damaged by the recent winter storms in anticipation of substantial spring run-off from the unprecedented, record-breaking southern Sierra Nevada snowpack.

Caltrans is coordinating with Inyo County and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power to plan for roadway impacts throughout the county from the anticipated spring run-off.

For the latest on this road closure and other emergency work around the District, follow Caltrans District 9 on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram. Before leaving home, check Quickmap.dot.ca.gov to get the latest road conditions, including chain control restrictions. You can also call the Road Condition Hotline at 1-800-427-ROAD (7623).

Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.

Travelers are asked to be attentive to workers on the highway, slow for the cone zone, and move over whenever possible to give additional clearance. Be Safe and Be Work Zone Alert!
