Utah = 8-16″ of Fresh Snow This Weekend

Utah is about to get it’s next dose of big snow.  8-16″ of new snow is forecasted for the Cottonwood Canyons this weekend.  That means you Snowbird, Alta, Solitude, and Brighton.  Enjoy it.

Alta has gotten 273″ of snow this season.

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO
5 AM MST SUNDAY ABOVE 7000 FEET...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SALT LAKE CITY HAS ISSUED A
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY ABOVE 7000 FEET FOR SNOW AND BLOWING
SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 5 AM MST
SUNDAY.

* AFFECTED AREA...THE WASATCH MOUNTAINS...WESTERN UINTA
  MOUNTAINS...WASATCH PLATEAU AND BOOK CLIFFS ABOVE 7000 FEET.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...STORM TOTALS OF 6 TO 14 INCHES WITH LOCALLY
  HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE.

* TIMING...RAIN AND SNOW WILL DEVELOP LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND
  INCREASE IN INTENSITY THIS EVENING AND OVERNIGHT WHILE CHANGING
  TO ALL SNOW. PERIODS OF SNOW WILL CONTINUE THROUGH SATURDAY
  BEFORE TAPERING OFF LATE SATURDAY NIGHT.

* SNOW LEVELS...BEGINNING NEAR 7500 FEET LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND
  GRADUALLY LOWERING OVERNIGHT TO BETWEEN 6000 AND 6500 FEET
  BY SATURDAY MORNING.

* WINDS...SOUTHWEST 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 50 MPH...WITH
  STRONGER WINDS AND GUSTS IN EXCESS OF 65 MPH ALONG EXPOSED
  RIDGELINES THROUGH TONIGHT.

* IMPACTS...SNOW AND STRONG WINDS WILL IMPACT TRAVEL ALONG HIGH-
  ELEVATION ROADWAYS ACROSS THE NORTHERN UTAH MOUNTAINS TONIGHT
  AND AT TIMES SATURDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT.
