Mikaela Shiffrin this week launched the first episode of her new YouTube series, Moving Right Along. It’s called “The Beginning.”

We kicked off (or tried to kick off) the 2022-23 World Cup season in Soelden, Austria in late October…but Mother Nature had different plans. So, we made the most of it, and I was able to hang out with my fan club (@shiffrinfans on Insta), make some kaiserschmarrn with my boyfriend Aleks (that’s Aleksander Aamodt Kilde – reigning super-G and downhill World Cup champion and two-time Olympic medalist + the nicest human out there) and get some solid workout and training time in before heading over to Pitztal, Austria for some more training pre-Levi World Cup slalom opener. Then we flew up to Levi, which is in Finnish Lapland (and located approximately 170 km—or 110 mi—north of the Arctic Circle) for a double slalom World Cup weekend. And, I’m not going to lie – the success of the weekend was not expected, but I was so, so grateful. I couldn’t have wished for a better start to the season…and my reindeer count officially reached six, as I added “Sunny” (short for “Sunshine” in honor of my teammate Ava Sunshine’s spectacular first World Cup race and points!) and “Lorax” (in honor of my dad) to the herd. 🙂
