Report from March 1, 2023
March came thundering in with style yesterday.
After being pinned in our house for a full day on Tuesday due to too much snow (Palisades Tahoe reported a record 77″ of snow in 48-hours), a 2-foot-deep unplowed road, all ski resorts closed, and a desire to stay safe we decided to finally roll out of the house yesterday in search of powder.
We found it and it was very very good.
Dwanis and I cruised to the top of the ridge we wanted to ski and we were only the 2nd group to do so.
We were very tentative about the avalanche conditions despite performing 5 tests on the way up that revealed good bonding.
We chose to ski a conservative, short line in the trees and it was the right call.
The skiing was superb.
We skinned back up and hit the more aggressive side the mountain and, oh my gosh, it was sumptuous…
2,000-vertical-feet of bliss with stellar views of the lake to boot.
Back up for another.
On the final pitch up, I was dragging…
On the top, Dwanis declared we’d climbed 5,000-vertical-feet that day.
No wonder I was tired!
5K is a lot for us.
But we hadn’t noticed it because the skiing was so good.
The last run was lovely.
Just as good as the 2nd, more aggressive, run.
We took this one back to the car.
6.5-miles, 5,000 vert, damn cold temps, mostly cloudy skies.
On our last run we did get a touch of sun and that didn’t hurt anything.
Thanks, Tahoe.
