HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (Dec. 8, 2023) — Professional skier and Quiksilver athlete Sammy Carlson has officially released his newest film, KAMASE. The backcountry-focused film highlights Carlson’s adventures from the high mountain peaks of Japan to British Columbia and Alaska, exploring some of the world’s most challenging terrain. The project is supported by Quiksilver, Monster Energy, Armada Skis, Black Ops and Oakley.

The film’s namesake, kamase, represents an ancient Japanese saying meaning “kill it” — a word still used today before dropping down the sides of huge mountains. KAMASE was shot on location in the remote mountains of Japan, the backwoods of British Columbia and the towering slopes of Alaska. Known for testing the limits in extremely technical terrain, Carlson is an experienced backcountry skier in pursuit of the world’s largest mountains, having established a legacy for himself through constantly pushing the boundaries of backcountry skiing. The adventure-seeking athlete spends his winters on the slopes of some of the globe’s most expansive, remote and untouched landscapes, and Carlson spent the 2022-23 season in good company, joined by friends Vinzenz Keller, Todd Ligare, Yu Sasaki and Yoshiya “Bull” Urata, who are also present in the final film.

Carlson partnered with production house KuenyPearson for the third year in a row to execute this high-energy ski film. Reflecting on his most recent backcountry experiences, he notes that his newest short film features “new pillows, bigger lines, deeper pow — we got all that!” From freeriding in the vast expanse of the Alaskan mountains to maneuvering the backcountry of British Columbia, KAMASE offers a glimpse into the remote terrain that proves to be the ideal blank canvas for Carlson to take big-mountain skiing to new heights.

Throughout the film, Carlson wears Quiksilver snow apparel adapted to the unique mountain conditions of each region, including his signature Quiksilver snow jacket in Japan, the Sammy Carlson Stretch Quest Technical Jacket. The professional skier also wears the Quiksilver High Altitude Gore-Tex Technical Jacket in British Columbia and his signature Gore-Tex jacket, the Highline Pro Sammy Carlson 3L Gore-Tex Shell Jacket, in Alaska.

KAMASE officially releases on Dec. 8, 2023, and will be available to watch via Quiksilver’s YouTube.
