Lassen Volcanic National Park, CA Rangers are advising people to avoid entering the water in Manzanita Lake due to the threat of attack from river otters. A visitor was severely injured by a river otter while swimming in the area on Thursday 25th June 2020.

-River otters have sharp and powerful teeth and sharp claws.
-They are territorial and will protect their young with aggression.
-The river otter in this area is most likely a female protecting its young and den.Please report any river otter incidents, especially aggressive behavior, to a park employee or at a visitor center.
