I’m belaying my partner, Tyler Karow, as he’s about to set out over the next bump on the ridge to see if it’s the 5.9 summit […] Featured Article Roger Romani | February 22, 2018 2 Comments

Squaw Alpine Conditions Report: Soft Snow and Plentiful Sun Christmas Day 12/25 at Squaw Valley Good weather kept the valley and upper mountain at Squaw nice and cold after Friday’s storm, even when the beautiful California sunshine came out. With a daytime high of mid-twenties for Sunday everything that had been skied on Saturday was still skiing relatively well. Nice and soft, almost chalky, with the occasional patch of rain […] Dylan Cautela | December 26, 2016 2 Comments

Whistler B.C. Conditions Report: Pillows, Pillows, Pillows… We have had a heck of a week up here in Whistler. This storm has definitely left its mark on the terrain here in Whistler and the Alpine is looking so good! With 150cm over the past 7 days and another 20-30cm over the weekend things cannot get much better. I think that within this past week I have had some of my better powder days I have had in a year or two. And today was pretty insane. Conditions Report Peter Wentz | December 11, 2015 0 Comments
Whistler, B.C. Conditions Report: Still Ripping Spring time in Whistler always promotes good fun, with long days making it possible to do many activities. The snow is slushy and smooth, the sun is out, goggle tans are in full swing, and everyone is having a good time on the hill. This spring has been interesting as Whistler Blackcomb decided to leave Whistler open into the late months of winter instead of Blackcomb. This has actually been really fun for me as I rarely ride Whistler. Lapping peak chair with no lines, and doing side hits and wind lips […] Conditions Report Peter Wentz | May 22, 2015 0 Comments
Whistler Conditions Report: All Time April It is safe to say that April has been the best month of the season for powder. It has been going off in Whistler for the last two weeks, with deep storms and cold temperatures compared to the rest of the winter. The alpine has been all time with new snow every couple of days, making it fresh and fun. There has been some wind with these most recent storms making some pockets super deep, while other ridges are icy and have variable snow. Crowds have been pretty small during the weekdays, and not too bad on the weekends either. This week there have been more people on the mountain and in the bars due to WSSF (World Ski and Snowboard Festival). Conditions Report Peter Wentz | April 15, 2015 1 Comment
Blackcomb, B.C. to Close One Month Early + Whistler Powder Report: This past week has been a mash of snow, rain, freezing levels rising and falling, and clouds. Up high on the mountain has been the place to be for the entire season and that is still true today. Sunday was by far the best snow day we have had in a while. There was over 30 cm of fresh that day with lower freezing levels. It was snowing in the parking lots for some parts of the day which has not occurred in a hot second. It was socked in all day so people were sticking to the trees and up high near rocks for visibility. Over the night rain continued […] Conditions Report Peter Wentz | March 30, 2015 2 Comments
Whistler Conditions Report: Alpine Powder Returns Over the last week, winter has returned in the alpine of Whistler with a solid 55cm of new snow. There has not been much opportunity to shred powder in Whistler this year, so people came up over the weekend to get after it. On Saturday, there was about a foot of fresh on the mountain. It was finally time to get after it. We rode Spankey’s almost the entire day and had an awesome time. Some areas had windblown pockets making it feel even deep than it was. Of course this means that there were also some ridges and exposed small pitches that were really icy. The snow lower down, by the bottom of […] Conditions Report Peter Wentz | March 24, 2015 0 Comments
Whistler Conditions Report: Chalky Charging With Christmas behind us and the start of a new year ahead, Whistler is looking good. For the last week it has stayed cold up on the mountain keeping things fresh and soft, even without any recent snowfall. The wind has been blowing making for some nice wind loaded areas, and a few ice patches. Snow is variable all over the mountain because of this. It has been completely sunny for the last few days making for some awesome skiing. You can go anywhere on the mountain as everything […] Conditions Report Peter Wentz | December 31, 2014 0 Comments
Whistler, B.C. Conditions Report: Alpine Opening This past weekend at Whistler Blackcomb, the alpine opened! People were very excited to get up and into the upper mountain with some fresh snow and good coverage. Saturday was when the Alpine opened with Glacier and 7th Heaven running on Blackcomb. On Whistler Peak and Harmony were open for periods on the weekend. The snow up high was insanely good, as things looked more covered in certain areas than they were late January of last year. Heavy snowfall on Thursday and Friday pasted the mountains with a fresh blanket of nice dense snow that covered up a lot of the upper mountain rocks […] Conditions Report Peter Wentz | December 15, 2014 0 Comments
Whistler, B.C. Conditions Report: Blackcomb Alpine Powder This last week Whistler had an an interesting mix of weather making for some fun skiing. Thursday night was met with about 8cm of new snow on top of some hardpack and ice. This new snow was definitely needed and brought out good skiing to be had all over the upper mountain. Saturday Whistler was expected to get some rain to the top of most open runs and snow in the alpine. It rained for a bit in the morning, but by the afternoon it was an interesting mix of fog and sun that made for nice slush and soupy skiing. Saturday night the temperatures dropped and froze all of the fun slushy snow […] Conditions Report Peter Wentz | December 8, 2014 0 Comments
The Rainier 9000: Summit to Paradise Ski Descent With the return of spring weather to Washington (no rain?!) the conditions in the mountains went from sketchy to primed. After allowing a few days for recent snowfall to settle or slide it was time. Ditching the 90 degree heat in Seattle, two buddies and myself decided to have a go at Rainier on Thursday Morning. We pulled out of Seattle at 6am on Wendesday and headed South to Rainier. After securing climbing permits and sorting out all our gear we left the lot around 10am. The temperature was easily in the 50’s as we worked our way up to Camp Muir. For anyone who has done that tour […] Chaz Diamond | May 16, 2014 2 Comments
Squaw/Alpine Report: Saturday, Sunday, Monday | Monster Photo Tour: Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows are back. According to friends, they’ve been skiing well for about 6 weeks now. Some new snow, some rain, some corn, some slush, some ice, some great terrain open. This weekend was no exception. If you’ve forgotten (I had), Squaw has unreal terrain. KT-22 is the mothership. Ski/ride it all day as fast […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | March 11, 2014 5 Comments
The Return of “Almost” Silent Skiing in Tahoe | Alpine Meadows, CA Conditions Report, Photo Tour With the biggest storm of 2014 come and gone, Tahoe was left with a refresher of snow, not much, but a lot better than before. With 6+ inches reported across the Tahoe basin, silent skiing almost occurred once again, but not really. It is still meager out there folks, better, but still less than desirable. Pow turns were had, core […] Conditions Report Jesse Cassidy | February 1, 2014 0 Comments
Squaw & Alpine Conditions Report | Alpine Still Winning… Squaw and Alpine are both open and both quite low on snow. Today we skied both ski resorts to make a direct, real time comparison. Alpine won. At Squaw Valley right now, they have Red Dog, Squaw Creek, and Gold Coast open. The best skiing is between the Squaw Creek run (which was great first thing this am in the sunlight) and the Dog Leg run off Red Dog (which was icy at first but softened by the afternoon and was fun). […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | December 18, 2013 4 Comments
Lake Tahoe Snow Report & Photo Tour: It has begun snowing in Lake Tahoe today. Accumulations aren’t astonishing yet, but just seeing snow in Tahoe is a very good thing. Forecasts are still calling for up to 12” of snow above 8,000 between now and Thursday. We’ll just have to wait.
