Colorado Avalanche Information Center Launches New Website With Dynamic Avalanche Forecasting

As early-season snow storms begin to blanket the Rockies, the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC) will begin to issue its daily weather and avalanche forecasts a little differently. Wasatch Range, UT Moves to โ€˜Extremeโ€™ Avalanche Danger Today | What That Means and Why Thatโ€™s So Rare

The avalanche compass turned black in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah today.  Black on the avalanche compass means โ€˜Extremeโ€™ avalanche dangerโ€”the highest danger rating there is.  The Utah Avalanche Center wrote in the Tuesday, February 16 avalanche forecast: โ€œToday the avalanche danger is EXTREME at mid and upper elevations.
