80-Inches of Snow Forecast for Chile This Week:

Northern Chile has had a slow start to the ski season this summer. That may all be about to change as 80″ of snow is forecast for ski resorts in northern Chile. Valle Nevado, one of the most popular ski areas in Chile that sits just outside of Chile’s capital city of Santiago is forecast to receive 207cms (81″) of snow this week by snow-forecast.com. Chilean Ski Resorts are Getting “California-ed”

Despite the first day of winter arriving yesterday, the majority of Chilean ski resorts are yet to get their first sticking snowfall of the season this year. 2015 Opening Dates for South American Ski Resorts:

Portillo, Chile, southern hemisphere

Ski season has begun in South America! Corralco ski resort in Chile opened for the season last week to solid early season coverage. Right now, the southern ski resorts are looking good snow-wise and all planning to open within the month. Many of the northern ski resorts, especially the ones in Chile are completely devoid of snow right now. These still dry ski resorts do not have opening dates listed yet as they are waiting for their first sticking snowfalls to arrive.
