Report from December 19, 2021 Sunrise in the Sierra is a special experience. We went out into a zone we love and walked all around harvesting 3,600-vertical-feet in the process. The snow was good. It shouldn’t have been because it got warm yesterday – but it was… We managed to keep our skis on north and northeast aspects and it […]

1ºF High Temperature Tomorrow on Mt. Shasta, CA at 12,000′

We were thinking of skiing Mt. Shasta on Tuesday and Wednesday. So I checked the forecast and saw that Shata is forecast to see a high temperature of 1ºF at 12,000′ on Sunday… Things don’t warm up much more than that the rest of the week so it looks like we won’t be headed to Shasta since that thing is […]

Increased Gray Wolf Activity in California

Indeed he did

Since a gray wolf named OR7 graced California’s northern territories in 2011, wolf activity has become a hot topic in the state. In the 1920’s the gray wolf had been eradicated from California and by the 1930’s was almost extinct across the entire US. OR7’s presence was the first real wolf activity in the state in almost 100 years and sparked a movement to […]

NOAA Video: El Nino ≠ Above Average Precipitation for NorCal | We Call B.S.

We’ll admit it. We’ve been hyping up El Nino for California. 1982/83 was the wettest year on record in California and it was a strong El Nino year. 1997/98 was a our last strong El Nino and it was a huge year in Tahoe. NOAA wants us to understand that just because it’s El Nino, doesn’t mean that we’ll get above average precipitation in Northern California. They go to great lengths to display this knowledge. But, we know they’re wrong. They claim to have 64 El Nino cycles on record and from that data set, they’ve created this downer video for you to get depressed about.[…]
