Almost A Century of Fun: A Brief History of Pond Skimming

Pond skim

For many years, spring skiing has brought forth sunshine and smiles, bikinis and bathing suits, and most famously, the pond skim. People have been using skis or variations of skis dating thousands of years back for transportation, hunting, and recreation. The concept of water skiing and skimboarding came to fruition in the early 1920s. So when did these all get […]

VIDEO: First Ever Backflip Pond Crossing

backflip pond crossing ski

Last spring, Ben Pichotti became the first person to ever successfully complete a 360º pond crossing at the Cushing Crossing at Squaw Valley, USA. This year, a skier successfully completed a backflip pond crossing at the Alyeska pond crossing. It does make us wonder what’s next? Rodeo flip pond crossing? 720º pond crossing? Mammoth’s Closing Day: Bikini Skiing, Snowball Fight Parties, Pond Crossing, & Sluffalanches…

skip to 2:41 to see Ben huck his 360 to full pond crossing Squaw Valley held its annual pond crossing on April 12th, 2014. Squaw was the first place to ever do a pond crossing and it has been imitated at ski resorts all over North America. Ben Paciotti was the first to ever do a 360 pond crossing and it was pretty impressive. We don’t think too many people will ever pull this off successfully. Ben is a pond crossing master not to be taken lightly. […]

24th Annual Cushing Crossing Wrap Up and Photo Tour

Costumes were out en masse

The 24th Annual Cushing Crossing was held today at Squaw Valley, and it was a fantastic show as always.  With plenty of costumes, crashes, and successful crossings the spring time vibe was alive and well at Squaw.  The snow has been melting fast, but that didn’t stop the grooming crew from pushing up an impressive ramp for the pond skim, […]

Cushing Crossing This Saturday @ Squaw | The Best Event of the Year?

This weekend will be big at Squaw Valley.  It’ll be the last weekend of KT-22 and the lower mountain and the Cushing Crossing will go down.  Last year, Squaw had a celebrity judges panel with Johnny Moseley and more.  This year, it sounds like it’s back to simply being the most fun event of the year at Squaw.  This definitely […]
