USA Olympic Uniforms Are Ugly:

There’s no two ways about it. The USA Olympic Uniforms for Sochi are ugly. These are the outfits that our athletes will be wearing at the opening ceremonies next month in Sochi, Russia. These new uniforms were just unveiled last week on the Today Show with Matt Lauer. The uniforms were designed by Ralph Lauren and made in America (Ralph Lauren’s 2012 London Olympic uniforms were made in China). In our opinion: yeah, they aren’t great, but we’d sure as hell love to be one of the people fortunate enough to wear one. Go team USA! […]

USA to Send Warships to Russian Olympics for Athlete Extraction:

uss truman

Security will be a major concern at the Sochi Olympics next month. The USA Government isn’t going to take any chances with its top winter athletes. They’re sending several warships and aircraft to Russia as a way to remove American athletes if anything gets weird. […]

BBC’s Winter Olympics Trailer Is Totally Over the Top

sochi olympics bbc video

Um… Hey, lady, yeah, that’s not how you carry skis… The BBC made this 2014 Winter Olympics trailer and it’s preposterous. The voice in the clip is British actor Charles Dance, who is famous for his role as Tywin Lannister in HBO’s Game of Thrones. This trailer has people who don’t know how to carry skis and who don’t really look like athletes going up against Mt. Doom. The best part is listening to […]

Lindsey Vonn Will NOT Compete in 2014 Winter Olympics | Another Surgery Scheduled

It’s official, Lindsey Vonn will not compete in the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. Lindsey will undergo her second knee surgery this season and she doesn’t forecast skiing on the World Cup until February 2015. That means that she will have been injured and out of the World Cup racing scene for 2 years before she comes back. I don’t picture Lindsey dominating fully next year on the World Cup. She’ll be smarter, take it easy, and get back to her full potential. In 2016, it’ll be a different story. If Lindsey can stay healthy, watch our for her in 2016. […]

Are the Olympics & President Putin Ecologically Destroying Sochi, Russia?

“It’s hard to say in one word how this makes me feel,” she said. “I want to be a giant and take all the buildings and trucks and break them.” She made a snapping motion with her hands. “It is horrible to make such things with nature.” – Maria Reneva, Russian Geographical Society scientific secretary in Sochi/Outside Magazine

Sochi, Russia Calls In Shamans to Pray for Snow for Olympics…

tunguska shaman

Last spring, they stockpiled 450,000 cubic meters of snow for this winter’s Olympics. This fall, Olympic organizers in Sochi have brought in shamans to pray for snow. They’ve also brought in 550 snowmaking machines to take advantage of any cold weather Sochi sees leading into the Olympics this February. Yep, shamans, witchdoctors, spiritual healers, magic makers. Russia isn’t taking any chances with snow during these winter games. Their concerns are valid. Last year, Sochi had one of the worst winters on record. They got a lot of rain and very little snow. Two Olympic training events were canceled last winter in Sochi due to a lack […]

“What Is & Where Is Sochi, Russia?”

Yep, Sochi, Russia, home of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, is a beach town.  Ya know, palm trees, warm water, bikinis, sunscreen?  Sochi lies in a sub-tropical climate akin to Florida’s climate. But 30 miles away from that beach lies the foot of the Caucasus mountains (which white people are named after) and, hopefully, a lot of snow. Already the […]

NPR Story: Are the 2014 Winter Olympics Hurting the Beach Town of Sochi, Russia?

This NPR story sheds light on what exactly is happening to Sochi, Russia as they prepare for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.  Sochi isn’t what we think.  It’s not a ski resort town.  It’s a beach resort town (luckily they’ve stored 450,000 cubic meters of snow for 2014) on the Black Sea that is getting a winter make over for […]

Russians Stockpiling Snow Now for 2014 Winter Olympics | 2 Test Events Canceled Due to Low Snow in 2013

“We think it’s unlikely that there will be 2 mild winters in a row.  Even if this winter is without snow and mild, we’ll still have 450,000 cubic meters, which, of course, is enough.” – Mikail Tiguskin, snow saving operations manager The Russians have begun stockpiling snow for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.  They’ve already stored 450,000 cubic meters […]
