Sheave Train Breaks Loose at Stevens Pass, WA

Photo Credit: Max Patterson  Unfortunate news out of Stevens Pass, WA when a lift was shut down due to a sheave train coming loose. At around 9:30 in the morning on 2/2/20, the sheave train on the 7th Heaven chairlift fell off of the tower. NOAA: 2-8โ€ณ of Snow Forecast in Washingtonโ€™s Mountains Friday-Sunday

HUGE Stevens Pass, WA Avalanche From the Helicopterโ€™s Perspective

Stevens Pass just got 10 feet of snow in 10 days. The sent patrollers out in a heli to trigger some avalanches to make sure things were safe for skiers and riders. They triggered an enormous avalanche last week that tore down trees and made for a helluva show. Washington Cascades Snow Forecast = 1-4โ€ Saturday, 2-10โ€ Sunday Above of 3,500 feet

Why such huge discrepancies in the amount of snow forecasted?  Because Washington weather is crazy.  And mostly because the snow amounts will vary largely with elevation.  This storm is coming in wet and warm and leaving wet and cold.  Elevations above 5,000 feet will see the most snow where elevations around 3,500 feet will be on the brink.  At the [โ€ฆ]
