Alta is for Skiers | Judge Dismisses Snowboarders’ Lawsuit Alta Ski Area is known for some of the deepest powder on the planet and its policy banning snowboarders from their lifts. Because of this, Alta “Ski” Area has been in the cross-hairs of Snowboarders for years who wish they could ride the lifts, and now thanks to U.S. District Court Judge Dee Benson, Alta can breathe a sigh of relief. If you haven’t been following the debate for nearly the last year, a group called Wasatch Equality has claimed their 14th Amendment rights were being violated by Alta Ski Area for not allowing them […] Industry News Kyler Roush | September 23, 2014 3 Comments
Snowbird, UT Conditions Report | Big Pow on June 18th Today it was hard to discern between it being April 18th or a June 18th powder day. The deciding factor ended up being a couple of things. Green trees everywhere being crushed by the weight of a foot of new snow and the lack of lifts running. As nice as lifts are it certainly isn’t a limiting factor when it comes to skiing creamy SUMMER POW. Line choices of the day included: Silver Fox through Rock Chute, Run-out of North Chute, Tram Cables, Run […] Conditions Report Kyler Roush | June 18, 2014 2 Comments
Jackson Hole, WY Conditions Report | Sun, Powder and Waffles | 3/12/14 What’s better than Apres? The obvious answer would be a little Pre-pres. That’s where Corbet’s Cabin comes into play. After a hard charging morning of a little pow and go seek looking for the remaining stashes ones stomach requires “World Famous Waffles” served hot and fresh at 10,450 feet. My personal preference is Strawberry, however Corbet’s has several steamy mouth-watering varieties to choose from. As with any post powder day the lines for the lifts were minimal to non-existent which left many powder […] Conditions Report Kyler Roush | March 13, 2014 0 Comments
Four Snowboarders Sue Alta Ski Resort Using 14th Amendment You did just read the title right… A 501(c3) pendng group (Not for Profit) has just filed suit against Alta Ski Lifts Company and their policy that has banned snowboarders from accessing their lifts. The entire 4 person group who has started a not for profit entitled Wasatch Equality are all listed as plaintiffs in the suit filed in the Utah District Court. Read the whole lawsuit here. Rick Alden, Drew Hicken, Bjorn Leines and Richard Varga believe that Alta’s ban on Snowboarding violates the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Section 1. All persons born or naturalized […] Featured Article Kyler Roush | January 15, 2014 14 Comments
Ski Stoke | New Edit From The Panda Tribe As much as we in the ski community like to think we are all friends and all get along, (Which we are and do) the snow world is like high school all over again. With so many variations and styles there are bound to be cliques. Jibbers, park rats, skittles, weekend warriors, bro-brahs, tele skiers and the list goes on. However when you bring all these together there are the haves and the have-nots. What is this have I speak of? Panda Poles. The Panda Tribe is […] Kyler Roush | December 31, 2013 0 Comments
Chicks Who Rip | K2 MissFits in Murren, Switzerland Last year, K2 sent three of their best skiing and looking female athletes, McKenna Peterson, Pip Hunt and Amie Engerbretsen, to Murren, Switzerland to ski big, bold and burly lines. While there the ladies encountered high avalanche danger, deep pow, manky slush and wind buff but made the most of it all. This winter McKenna and Pip and several others will be taking skills […] Kyler Roush | December 11, 2013 3 Comments

RAMP Peacepipe | Ski Review Last season I almost exclusively skied on RAMP Skis. With the majority of that skiing being on the RAMP Peacepipe, one of their “Hard Charging Powder Skis”. For myself I skied on the 179cm model mounted with Look Pivots on the recommended mounting point. In total during the 2012/2013 snow sliding season I put over 120 days on my skis. Working with the Snowbird Ski Patrol meant a vast majority of those days were 8-10 hour days of “work”. When on the clock I don’t always have the choice to ski where I want. This means skiing in unfavorable conditions such as frozen chicken-heads and sheets of ice that […] Gear Kyler Roush | November 15, 2013 3 Comments
Solitude At Solitude | Opening Day Conditions Report As we have been reporting nearly everyday lately, things in Utah have been off to banger start. Backcountry skiing has been solid for a month now for those willing to work for their turns. Then there are people who aren’t as motivated to work for turns. For those of us we now have Solitude Ski Resort and one other in Utah open daily for skiing and riding. Today I found myself in a canyon I am not as accustomed to as I am Little Cottonwood and my home resort of Snowbird. Desperate times call for desperate measures though and Snowbird is not open yet but Utah hosts several World Class resorts. So I headed up to Solitude Ski Resort for a day of fun in the sun with friends. […] Conditions Report Kyler Roush | November 8, 2013 1 Comment

Utah Backcountry Ski Report: Deep in Country Lane Chute, Little Cottonwood Canyon The early season here in the Wasatch Mountains of Northern Utah has been STELLAR! The amount of backcountry pow the last month has been dreamy. In addition, Solitude, our first resort of the year is poised to open on the 8th. Things are going great here and now is one of the most exciting times to start picking off big lines. We are typically spoiled with superb access for all backcountry zones in our area so many times we are skinning from the car and skiing to the car. However early season poses some logistical challenges to add to the spice. […] Conditions Report Kyler Roush | November 5, 2013 1 Comment

Utah 2012 – 2013 Backcountry Review | Don’t Be A Statistic Take some time out of your evening to refresh your memory of last seasons snow pack and get your frame of mind refocused from summer fun to snow safety. This last week has been a big week in Utah. While the storm totals are not as deep as we would like them to be we are off to a great start for resort bases. With this second real storm of the year we saw out first NATURAL avalanche cycle of the year. In addition to the snow this week was also the 23rd annual National Avalanche School that I had to the opportunity to attend during the week. Also this last week was the 7th annual Utah Snow […] Weather Kyler Roush | November 3, 2013 4 Comments
Friday Fun: Low-Speed, Hard-Core Gymkhana Go-Kart Drifting When it comes to exciting cinematic quality drift videos most people think of DC Shoes founder Ken Block. However Ken Block might have some an up and coming contender coming off of the Go-Kart Circuit. Watch and find out for yourself how Ken Box is giving DC Shoes founder a run for his money. The Go-Kart used in the filming is a product by Razor (Yes the scooter people) and is being exclusively distributed by Toys “R” Us. They claim that the scooter can handle 140 pounds but based on the video above I think that […] Friday Fun Kyler Roush | October 25, 2013 2 Comments
Power Day at Snowbird and Alta, UT! | Video Proof Yesterday we reported about the first Winter Weather Advisory of the year. The storm rolled in as expected but under performed slightly. In general, Snowbird and Alta received about 8 inches at mid-mountain over night. I was at Snowbird today and can vouch for that 8 inches and more in the proper aspects (over 18 inches in select locals). You will hear me say this time and time again this winter, when skiing at Snowbird and Alta you need to be conscious of your aspect in relation to the winds and storm direction at all times for […] Conditions Report Kyler Roush | October 14, 2013 0 Comments
Snowbird and Alta, Utah | First Winter Weather Advisory Of The Year Here in Northern Utah we had a seemingly short fall. After the hottest summer on record in Salt Lake City several weeks ago things changed over night to very fall-esque weather. However fall as we think of it did not last long. The Wasatch has been receiving a winter storm each week for now the 4th week running. Nothing has been […] Weather Kyler Roush | October 13, 2013 1 Comment
Arapahoe Basin, Colorado Opens Sunday, Oct 13th | Photo Tour It appears that Arapahoe Basin will be the first resort that we are aware of to open skiing and riding to the general public and it’s only 2 days away! Arapahoe was one of the first resorts to turn on their snow-guns on September 27th and have been blasting snow as much as conditions have permitted them to. During the last 2 […] Kyler Roush | October 11, 2013 4 Comments
Snowbird Annouces Changes To Its Parking Policies The last few months the bars, climbing crags, trails and inter-webs have been abound with rumors on proposed parking changes at Snowbird. Not surprising was that nearly every rumor I had heard was flat out wrong. Some of the most egregious accused Snowbird of attempting to charge for any and all parking and that couldn’t be further from the truth! The Facts: Snowbird has 2,800 parking […] Kyler Roush | October 11, 2013 0 Comments
