The Evolution of Alta Ski Area’s Powder Photography

Alta Ski Area in Utah is the third-highest snowfall ski resort in the United States, with an annual snowfall of 540 inches. With Alta’s impressive powder precedents, it’s no surprise it produces phenomenal powder photos. Inevitably, the process and products of the photography that takes place in Alta have evolved over the years. One of Alta’s most notorious powder photographers, […]

Alta, UT Report: A Day of Shredding and Sending

Alta Report

Brought to you by Alta Ski Area Report from February 12, 2021 We woke up early today and skied from open to close. It dumped heavy, wet snow for the first half of the day and then lightened up in the afternoon. The line for the Collins chair was too long for our inpatient ski legs, so we stuck to Supreme, […]

Winter Chalk: Alta Conditions Update + Photo Tour

After receiving over 6 feet of snow over Christmas week, the skiing continues to rip at Alta with the start of the New Year. Soft wintery snow was to be found all over, with the best turns hanging out off of High Traverse on Collins. Supreme lift also had some fun off the skiers right, as well as skiing upper chair line under Collins. Alta Got So Much Snow, They Couldn’t Open Today…

A huge storm in Utah left Alta with so much snow, they couldn’t open today. We are sorry you had to miss skiing today! – Alta” This early in the season, Alta is likely understaffed and just doesn’t have enough patrollers to perform avalanche control in a […]

Chalk, Powder, and Flips @ Alta, UT: Conditions Update and Photo Tour

While the West Coast is off to a slow start, and California continues to lack any signs of snow whatsoever, the conditions at Alta are absolutely ripping. With 40 inches of blower snow in the past week and cold temps the coverage is great and the snow is holding up fantastically. Patrol opened the Bad News Cliffs for the first time since the storm, which led to plenty of fresh turns and deep landings. […]
