Come Ski Antarctica With Us in November 2017:

**All photos in this article are from Ice Axe Expeditions’ 2016 Antarctica trip. In both November 2016 and November 2014, I was fortunate enough to guide 4 fun skiers in Antarctica for a week with Ice Axe Expeditions aboard the 331-foot Sea Adventurer.  These were by far the coolest trips I’ve ever been on anywhere.  Not just the coolest ski trip I’ve […]

Trip Report: Skiing Antarctica With Ice Axe Expeditions 2016

**All photos in this article are from Ice Axe Expeditions’ 2016 Antarctica trip. Sunshine. The November 2016 Ice Axe Expeditions Antarctica ski trip experienced full blown sunshine nearly every single day.  That golden sunshine combined with an incredible lack of wind translated to corn snow, amazing visibility, easier everything, more wildlife sightings, more fun, more smiles, and more skiing.  I heard one […]

Come Ski Antarctica With Us In November 2016:

Last November, I was fortunate enough to guide 4 fun skiers in Antarctica for a week with Ice Axe Expeditions aboard the 331-foot Sea Adventurer. It was by far the coolest trip I’ve ever been on anywhere. Not just the coolest ski trip I’ve been on, but the coolest trip I’ve been on anywhere. Antarctica is the only place I’ve been that is 100% natural. There’s not many places like that left on Earth. Essentially no evidence of humans anywhere and we get to charge around and ski on it. It was the trip of a lifetime and I can’t wait to go back with you and yours. If you’re interested in learning more about this Antarctica ski trip, please contact me […]

Trip Report: Skiing the Antarctic Peninsula w/ Ice Axe Expeditions

ski antarctica

On November 9th, 2014, I set ski boot on the continent of Antarctica for the first time in my life. Within 5 minutes of being on land, a monstrous (about the size of 3 houses) iceberg began to moan, crack, and then flip over less than 100 yards away from where we stood. Within 6 minutes of being in Antarctica, I found myself running uphill, away from the ocean to avoid a potentially huge wave that the flipping iceberg threatened to send our way. Welcome to Antarctica rookie… 93 skiing clients and 24 mountain guides set sail in the 331-foot Sea Adventurer from Ushuaia, Argentina (furthest south city on Earth) for the Antarctic Peninsula […]

We’re Off To Ski Antarctica Today:

We’re loading up on the 330-foot Sea Adventurer in Ushuaia, Argentina (the furthest south city on Earth) this afternoon. We’re heading to Antarctica. It’ll take two days in the boat to cross the infamous Drake Passage and arrive at the Antarctic Peninsula. Once there, we’ll be climbing and skiing for 6 days before returning home. We’ve skied the past 5 days here in Ushuaia and I’ve been blown away. Easy access and great terrain make the backcountry here shine. This will be the trip of a lifetime and my 4 clients are […]

Come Ski Antarctica with Us| Ice Axe Expeditions Leaves This November…

Ice Axe Expeditions is going to Antarctica in early November. They are going down to ski and snowboard, to explore and frolic, to observe and revere. They went once before and the trip was spectacular. Blue skies, good snow, and an amazing crew. It’s the trip of a lifetime. Just to be in antarctica is unreal, to get to ski on top of that, is a major bonus. I will be guiding on the 2014 […]

Antarctica 2014 – The Time is Now | by Andrew McLean

I know… it just seems like the snow has just melted and now next season is already sneaking up. Or in the case of Antarctica, the 2014 ski season is finally catching up to the northern hemisphere. November in Antarctica is like April in Utah – the days are getting longer, the temperatures are warming up, the snowpack is full, generally stable and very skiable. But no matter how long you wait in the […]
