Report from November 22, 2023

Yesterday, Inti and I went for a walk up and down Suicide Chute on 11,068′ Mt. Superior, UT.

Inti is a buddy from Bariloche, Argentina.

This was my first time skiing Suicide Chute in Spanish!

Ski day #290 of my “300” project.

I have until December 8, 2023, to hit 300…

I want the skiing in this project to always be as meaningful as possible.

I could just ski the Blue Square groomer at Park City every day until I hit 300 but I want to push myself and experience meaningful skiing on as many of these 300 days as humanly possible.

There still isn’t enough snow to ski down the base of the chute nor the apron – which is kinda normal for me at this point…

I generally ski this chute in the very early and very late season and I love it.

This is a very popular zone but early and late it can be empty or at least less busy.

2.6 million humans on the Wasatch Front puts a lot of pressure on this tiny mountain range so you have to employ some strategy to keep out of the middle of the pack.

Skinning up the south-facing apron was hot in the sun but easy enough.

We switched to boot packing sans crampons at the base of the chute and scrambled up the wall just looker’s right of the chute and into the chute proper.

A boot pack was already in and we made decent time to the top of the couloir.

1 hour and 20 minutes to the top.

3 cool cats rolled up behind us and we let them play through.

I dropped first and pushed myself to ski the entire chute without stopping.

I only hit one rock and even that was a glancing blow.

Inti ripped down to me and we switched back to boots for the climb down.

This is the part that’s the most mentally taxing.

You just wanna ski back to the road like a normal tour…

Fortunately, the down-climbing and hiking was easy.

We moved well and got from the base of the chute to the road in only 15 minutes or less.

The stoke was real once we hit the road.

Sunshine, smiles, and an easy walk back to the car.

I dropped Inti off in town and rolled over to Skimo Co.

The lovely people at Skimo (Josh, Julian, and crew) had finished mounting my new ATK bindings on my Scott skis and I’m beyond fired up.

They pointed out that ATK had put my name on the bindings!

I am very honored to be on the ATK team and that they took the trouble to put my name on the bindings.

It really made me feel good and feel special.

Thanks, ATK!

Thanks, UT!
