Mt. Shasta Conditions Report: Warm Days, Good Climbing on CAโ€™s Largest Glaciers

July brings classic summer weather to Mt. Shasta; days are warm and winds mild with relief from the heat found on the upper mountain and glaciers. We wrapped up the south side season and are no longer leading trips on Avalanche Gulch or the West Face. After the drought winter of 2014, we were pleasantly surprised to have really good climbing on the mountain. [โ€ฆ]

Australia Is Geting Pounded By Snow: Photo Tour

Australia is having a great coupla weeks. Last week, they got 6 feet of snow. This week, another 68 cms are forecasted. Australian ski resorts have already gotten more snow this year, than they got all of last year. Kinda hard to believe. And itโ€™s early. The season usually doesnโ€™t really get started until late July. The real question right now is this: Will Australia have a better season than South America? So far, so good. But again, itโ€™s early. Recreational Marijuana is LEGAL in Washington State Now

Washington state just legalized recreational marijuana this week. What does that mean? It means you can walk into a marijuana shop and buy and use marijuana just for fun. Very interesting that two of the best ski/snowboard states in the union have now totally legalized marijuana. Colorado legalized recreational marijuana this past January. So far, their crime rates have dropped [โ€ฆ]

RALS WHITE | 13/14 Northstar

Rals White showing us to play the cards you were dealt with, especially when that comes to Tahoeโ€™s previous season which was not par. Honestly, the worst year ever. Lucky for the YDKS kids that Northstar has one of the best snow making systems in California keeping them up and off the dirt, for most of winter. [โ€ฆ]

Buenos Aires, Argentina FREAKING OUT After World Cup Win | Photos & Video:

Argentina. Itโ€™s a mysterious land. Itโ€™s a land of snow and skiing and Patagonia and the longest mountain range on Earth. Hell, they even have the tallest mountain in the world outside the Himalayas (Aconcagua at 22,800 feet). Now, they have a World Cup Finals team. This is big, real big. And they know it. The swelled into the streets of Buenos Aires and partied hard after their World Cup win last night. They beat the Dutch in the a shoot out after a 0-0 final score. Mt. Hood, OR Conditions Report: July 5th & 6th Summer Skiing

What did you do over the 4th of July weekend? Whatever patriotic activity you participated in, you could have gone to Mt Hood instead. You can ski and ride the Palmer glacier, or even climb the 11,240 foot (3426 m) peak in the Oregon Cascades all summer long. The weather was just perfect: sunny, mostly clear and not too warm. The snow stayed in decent shape until about noon before it turned too soft for the ski racers that make up the majority of the people on the mountain. [โ€ฆ]

Beartooth Basin, Summer Only Ski Resort, Is CLOSED for the Season

Itโ€™s true: Beartooth Basin summer only ski resort is closed for the season. Kinda sad, but still great that we have a summer only ski resort in North America. Beartooth Basin, MT/WY opened this year on May 24th, 2014 and they stayed open until July 6th, 2014. That means they were open for an incredible 45 days this year. Well, a few less we suppose, as that big snowstorm they got in June shut down the road for a couple days. That said, thatโ€™s rad that Beartooth had a few powder days this summer. Beartooth also got about 150% of normal snowfall during the 2013/14 winter giving them a solid base to work with. [โ€ฆ]

Mt. Moran, Wyoming Conditions Report: Summer Solstice Party Ski

12,605-foot Moran is a classic mountain, and skiing the skillet is mega classic, so in order to make it obscure, we decided to have a summer solstice party and also ski during a snowstorm. The rest of the trip was clear and sunny, but we nailed the timing and became engulfed in a cloudy, white-out snowstorm just as we were arriving at the summit. And, right as we finished the ski, it got sunny again. That was obscure I think. I bet most people donโ€™t try to do that. โ€œI was surprised that the edit showed so many close ups of my face.โ€ Said Silas, the star of the edit. [โ€ฆ]

July 4th (decent!) Skiing in Tahoe โ€“ โ€œThe Patchโ€

If youโ€™re around Tahoe, want to ski, and canโ€™t get to one of the three resorts in North America that are still open, patch skiing is a good option. However, some spots are certainly better than others. Andy Hays, Katy Hover-Smoot and I drove down today for some 4th of July turns on โ€œThe Patchโ€, a classic spot just a short jaunt outside of Tahoe near Red Lake and Kirkwood. Easy access, but donโ€™t attempt getting up the dirt road without a raised [โ€ฆ]
