NOAA: SNOW for Beartooth Pass, MT/WY This Weekend:

NOAA is forecasting up to 3″ of snow for the Beartooth Pass area of Montana and Wyoming this weekend. This is where our favorite summer only ski resort lives: Beartooth Basin. Hopefully snow will start sticking at Beartooth to get the summer 2016 snowpack started.Widespread precipitation is expected today across the state. Showers will move northward across western portions this morning, as a Pacific storm system treks eastward.

5-Hr Rescue Saves Severely Injured Skier at Beartooth Pass, MT

A 21-year-old male skier took a nasty fall on the Gardner Headwall at Beartooth Pass, Montana on Sunday. The skier was seriously injured in the fall. Red Lodge Fire Rescue/Search & Rescue and the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene of the fall on Sunday. The skier reportedly hit a rock while skiing and fell a long way down before landing inside a tight crevasse in the snowpack. He suffered a severe leg injury in the fall. It took rescue crews on the ground 5 hours to locate and remove the victim. Heavy fog prevented the use of a helicopter in the operation.
