Copper Mountain, CO Conditions Report: Bluebird to the Future

The most recent storm cycle dropped a magnificent 7″ on Copper Mountain. It was hard to find a spot where the skiing wasn’t terrific. Landings were soft, bumps were smoothed out, and everyone on the mountain was sending it. Seen today: random face shots, some hero straightlining Revenge and Endeavor, lots of smiles, and very, very few clouds. Temps were cold but warming through […]

Copper Mountain, CO Conditions Report: Bluebird Magic

After this month’s major storm cycle, we’ve all needed a little vitamin D. Copper Mountain provided yesterday. It was picturesque bluebird, with no wind nor a cloud in the sky. Temps hovered around 30ºF all day. The warm weather hasn’t transformed the snow yet, so it was still soft all over the mountain. Chalky, recycled powder and windbuff covered most of the terrain, […]

Crystal Mountain, WA Conditions Report: Chalky cold, Storms, Bluebird

Crystal Mountain got a little refresh for Christmas followed by some cold, clear temps. Pockets of chalky recirculating powder kept the off piste pretty dang fun, which was a gift in its own right. The previous storm came in windy and kept the frontside refilling to the point I did the same run turn for turn 14 times. It was […]

Alta, UT Conditions Report – Fun Bluebird Day

Driving up to Alta on Saturday, I had low expectations. It had gotten warm on Friday so I expected bulletproof in the morning, and some spring slush and corn in the afternoon. Boy was I wrong. Our first few laps on the groomers were amazing. The snow was groomed into perfect corduroy and had the perfect consistency. Alta’s Base Depth: […]

Bariloche, Argentina Conditions Report: Violently Bluebird

Catedral ski resort in Bariloche, Argentina experienced an impeccable day today. No wind, warm temps, good snow, great times. Southern aspects are still holding chalky, powdery snow. North faces have fun sun cooked pow. In bounds skied great today in the sun. Nubes was skiing well, Del Bosque even had some huckable cliffs in the soft afternoon snow. Our crew climbed up to the spires in La Laguna and dropped off the back – “Tower Chute” – for a long run into the Van Titter valley. The snow was powdery, chalky, and damn fast. The views from the mountain were […]

Alyeska Conditions Report: 20 Days of High Pressure

Not much has changed at Alyeska in the last two weeks. A massive high pressure system has taken over Alaska, blocking any major storm headed its way. The temperatures have been in the single digits in the valley floors and the mid twenties above 1,000 feet. Its been nice to escape the cold and take hot laps on the groomers on the upper mountain. These cold temperatures on the valley floor have been wonderful for the snowmakers. They have now filled in most of the lower mountain and are blasting huge mounds of snow on runs that are not open such as Tanaka and water fall. This will be great for the race team to finally […]

Alta Conditions Report – Bluebird for Days!

For many people in Alta last week was the best week of skiing they had had in years. As in anything in life, with the good comes the bad. Lucking this is Alta, so bad is really still pretty descent. I like to say that in Alta it is either snowing hard or bluebird, and this past week has not let us down. Though it has been dry, it has been absolutely gorgeous and ski patrol has been able to drop some ropes, most notably on […]

Alta Conditions Report – 81″ of Snow in Ten Days!

Alta ended 2014 on a high note! A series of storms dropped 81″ of successively lighter snow, leaving us with some epic (and I don’t use this term lightly) powder skiing. The storms lifted and we are now in a period of high pressure, but there is still great snow out there and with cold temps the skiing is still fantastic. I won’t be to wordy with this post, and I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. Enjoy! Midstorm riding conditions were as deep as they get. Bluebird Wasatch powder skiing the way it should […]

1 Shot @ The Chimney, Bluebird Pow, Crud, & Groomers | Squaw Valley USA Powder Day Report:

Dare I say it was the best day of the season? Almost. Was it one of the most fun days I’ve had all year? Hell yes. We got a little bit of a late start and took our first run at 10am. Big mistake. We had amazing spring pow for our first run, but I gave myself a nice slap in my own face for not getting here by 9am. Siberia and the Palisades were going off first thing in the morning and we saw some nice […]

April 2 at Sugar Bowl | Bluebird Pow

After tallying up 86” in the most recent storm cycle, saying the skiing at Sugarbowl looked awesome looks like a bit of an understatement. On April 2, the weather cleared and high pressure returned to the area, opening up possibilities up high. Not only is the terrain sicker, but the snow had been […]

Bluebird Blitzkreig @ Kirkwood – 02/23/14

I’ve been waiting for a day like this since November of 2013. The stars aligned and delivered bluebird skies, no wind, wintery snowpack, and every one of my favorite lines accessible. Its this early season snowpack (I know its late February) that really gives Kirkwood its raw feel and exhume its fun factor. Lines like Oops n Poops, Chamoix, Dan’s Cliffs, Thunder Saddle, Soul Searcher, Broadway Chute […]
