Scott Gaffney, Squaw Valley, California

Scott Gaffney, filmmaker, Matchstick Director, skier, mediocre diehard surfer, and literally the G in GNAR, spoke out in support of Squaw Valley’s decision to remove ‘Squaw’ from their name in 2021. Squaw Valley ski resort in Lake Tahoe, CA yesterday committed to changing their name from the word “Squaw” since the word “Squaw” is considered a racial & sexist slur against […]

The Chimney at Squaw Opened Yesterday: Photos & Videos

SnowBrains co-founder Eric Bryant. photo: robb gaffneyThe Andy Hays. photo: robb gaffney

The legendary Chimney at Squaw Valley, USA opened for the first and likely the last time of the season yesterday. Not many were on hand to hit it, but those who where there to witness it, got a helluva show. The cornice drop in was sizable, the ramp was damn fast and the air out was certainly larger than normal. Scott Gaffney dropped first and blew up upon impact. The rest of the boys all stomped the Chimney Sweep landing and […]

VIDEO: Squaw Valley’s Scott Gaffney 2013/14 Season Edit

scott gaffney ski

“MSP director Scott Gaffney getting in some fun on his days off. It was a weak winter and he’s old, but he isn’t dead yet.” – MSP Scott Gaffney is 45-years-young and still rips harder than anyone at Squaw. He’s had his ups and downs, his injuries and Fingers glory, and he’s been a fixture at Squaw Valley since the early 90’s. The guy can ski. He still flips and spins and spends plenty of time in the air. If you see this guy charging down a line at Squaw this winter, take the time to stop and watch. You won’t be […]

One Run @ Squaw Valley for Timy Dutton | by Scott Gaffney

Scott Gaffney hiked up Red Dog at Squaw Valley on Cinco de Mayo, the day of Timy Dutton’s memorial, to ski one run for Timy. Despite the extremely low tide, the run didn’t disappoint: a 360s, some good turns, a built jump, 7 dirt/grass crossings, a couple featured bonked, a helluva fun. Timy Dutton is greatly missed at Squaw right now and it’s being expressed in the ways we know how to express it. Thanks Timy.

Squaw Valley Fingers Race April 17th, 2006

And the winner is… Scott Gaffney. Yep, that first guy ripping down like he owns the place is Scott. He pretty much does own the place. Scott still skis this hard and if you’re in a Fingers Race, keep an look out over your shoulder for this guy. 2006 was an incredible year at Squaw. The mountain got pummeled with snow all season and things filled in in ways that we’ve only seen that year. […]
