Ski Resorts in Europe Already OPEN for 2015/16 Ski Season!

Early storms have already rolled through the high alps and left snow on the peaks of Europe this late summer. Saas Fee, Switzerland got a foot of new snow on their glacier last week. It was enough for them to open their ski resort to allow for some lift accessed powder in September. Not bad.

Finally, A Northern Chile Ski Resort OPENS After Monster Storm

Vale Nevado ski resort in northern Chile with new snow yesterday.

Over the weekend, northern Chile and Argentina were hit by an Atmospheric River event (a big storm) that dropped up to 63-inches of snow on some ski resorts. Not one northern Chile ski resort was open last week as they were all bone dry and brown. Only 1 Ski Resort STILL OPEN in North America:

Arapahoe Basin, CO closed for the season yesterday. Now there is only one ski resort open in North America, but soon there will be two. Whistler Blackcomb will be opening up for summer glacier skiing on June 20th. They’ll stay open until July 23rd. It’s too bad that Beartooth Basin, summer-only ski resort, will not be open this summer. Timberline Lodge, OR today.

Arapahoe Basin reopened today after ending daily operations last Sunday. A-Basin will be open this one last weekend before calling it quits for the year. It’s too bad that Beartooth Basin, summer-only ski resort, will not be open this summer. Ah, Springtime… Park, pipe, shorts, bikinis, hot tubs, hot springs, ice cream, beer, beer guts, sunglasses, stinky sunscreen, hot dogs, ball caps, sunburns, costumes, and deep powder.

Memorial Day brought powder to Colorado and Mammoth, CA and Arapahoe Basin, CO. Mammoth ended up with a 5″ powder day on Sunday that was too fun. Mammoth is now closed for the season, but we’re blown away they were able to stay open from mid November until Memorial Day on the worst snowfall season on record. Thanks Mammoth.
