Report from November 29, 2023

Yesterday, I stubbornly went back up and into 11,068′ Mt. Superior’s crack:  Country Lane.

Ski day #297 of my “300” project.

I started up at about 12:45pm and the apron was hot and sweaty as per usual.

  • 1,500-vertical-feet
  • 1.5-miles
  • 1 hour & 22 mins car to summit
  • 2 hours & 12 mins car to car
  • 4th time skiing this chute in 7-days

The initial booter up the base of the chute is quite icy now and crampons are the move.

I cramponed up the icy then dug into the bootpack proper.

The wind was blowing up the bottom third of the chute which wind drifted the bootpack a bit and slowed me down.

Up higher, the booter was all good, firm, and grippy.

The only thing new to report was that down low, the chute had that skiff of windblow snow that did help the skiing in that section.

The rest of the chute was the choppy moguly bliss that it has been.

Consistent and a stolid workout.

I pass one kind skier booting up the chute as I skied down and no one else.

It was another very pleasant day up on Mt. Superior.

I only have 3 more days to hit 300 ski days skied in a year.

It’s been an honor to execute this “300” project in Alaska, Antarctica, Bariloche Argentina, El Chalten Argentina, Chilean Patagonia, Tierra Del Fuego Argentina, Lake Tahoe California, Mammoth & the Eastern Sierra in California, Utah, Wyoming, and British Columbia Canada.

This project is inspired by and dedicated to my mother, who survived cancer 3 times over a 20-year period and finally succumbed to her 4th cancer last winter.

She was stubborn, tough, gritty, and determined that’s what it’s taking to complete this 300 project and she is the reason why it’s happening.

She was my rock, stalwart, and fierce in any kind of storm.

We are going to be celebrating day #300 at Solitude in the Village Parking Lot at 1pm on Saturday, December 2, 2023.

My mom loved champagne so we are gonna drink a toast to her, a toast to #300, a toast to all of you, and a toast to this coming winter.

Thanks, Mom
