Blackcomb Opening Day: Sunny Hot Laps Blackcomb Mountain opened today and it was a super good time! I was not sure what the snow was going to be like since it had not snowed in a bit, but was surprised to find super soft and fresh snow. It was definitely wind-blown and anything that was on an open face had a wind crust and funky snow. But in the protected areas the snow was soft, smooth, and awesome to ride. In the morning we were hot lapping chair line of Jersey and having an awesome time. I could not stop skiing to take a picture because it was such a fun time. Whistler Conditions Report: All Time April It is safe to say that April has been the best month of the season for powder. It has been going off in Whistler for the last two weeks, with deep storms and cold temperatures compared to the rest of the winter. The alpine has been all time with new snow every couple of days, making it fresh and fun. There has been some wind with these most recent storms making some pockets super deep, while other ridges are icy and have variable snow. Crowds have been pretty small during the weekdays, and not too bad on the weekends either. This week there have been more people on the mountain and in the bars due to WSSF (World Ski and Snowboard Festival). Conditions Report Peter Wentz | April 15, 2015 1 Comment
Blackcomb, B.C. to Close One Month Early + Whistler Powder Report: This past week has been a mash of snow, rain, freezing levels rising and falling, and clouds. Up high on the mountain has been the place to be for the entire season and that is still true today. Sunday was by far the best snow day we have had in a while. There was over 30 cm of fresh that day with lower freezing levels. It was snowing in the parking lots for some parts of the day which has not occurred in a hot second. It was socked in all day so people were sticking to the trees and up high near rocks for visibility. Over the night rain continued […] Conditions Report Peter Wentz | March 30, 2015 2 Comments
Whistler Conditions Report: Alpine Powder Returns Over the last week, winter has returned in the alpine of Whistler with a solid 55cm of new snow. There has not been much opportunity to shred powder in Whistler this year, so people came up over the weekend to get after it. On Saturday, there was about a foot of fresh on the mountain. It was finally time to get after it. We rode Spankey’s almost the entire day and had an awesome time. Some areas had windblown pockets making it feel even deep than it was. Of course this means that there were also some ridges and exposed small pitches that were really icy. The snow lower down, by the bottom of […] Conditions Report Peter Wentz | March 24, 2015 0 Comments
Whistler Conditions Report: Refresh Winter has not had its last word yet. It seems like the March warm and dry spell has finally concluded. This last weekend we saw storms up high in the alpine dropping off about 15cm of snow. This new snow definitely made the mountain more lively and gave some life back into Whistler. The story of this winter has been stay high up on the mountain. That is still the case now with this past storm having a freezing level of around 1600m. Snow in the alpine has been good, while tree line has had some wet snow and rain. Below this however there has just been rain, making the lower mountain mainly dirt. Whistler Conditions Report: Slushy Days Within this past week Whistler has seen a lot of sun and some clouds mixed in here and there. The mornings may be a bit icy and hardpack all over the mountain but as long as you wait until the afternoon and ski the sunny slopes you will have a good time skiing off of the groomers. These warm temperatures have made the snow pretty fun by later in the day with some soft spring skiing. Shaded areas have remained firm but the grooming has been on point making it possible to rip super fast without any worries. I have been skiing on 7th for most days and the Coulior on the skiers right side by the […] Conditions Report Peter Wentz | March 10, 2015 1 Comment
Whistler Conditions Report: Sunny Days Over the last week the sun has been shining down on Whistler Blackcomb. It has made it possible to go deep in the alpine, go shred some soft spring snow in the sun on resort, or hit up the park. As long as you played it smart and stayed away from the shaded skied out areas you were bound to have a sunny, fun time. I spent most of the last week going to Blackcomb. The groomers were super-fast and smooth in the morning, so I would start the day with a few laps on 7th Heaven or Glacier. I have not spent much time laying in hard groomer turns before, but it […] Conditions Report Peter Wentz | February 25, 2015 0 Comments
Whistler Conditions Report: Go Out and Explore It is time to go out and explore Whistler. This past week ended the rain cycle that has been tormenting Whistler for the past two or three weeks. Since Friday we have seen sun and temperatures hovering around zero degrees. The upper alpine has about an inch of dust on a nice crusty layer in shady spots. Rain runnels are prevalent on the glaciers as well as across the mountain […] Conditions Report Peter Wentz | February 17, 2015 0 Comments

Whistler Conditions Report: Powder is Back Today was super fun up on the mountain. Some new snow and little crowds on Monday made for some nice laps. I went to Blackcomb in the morning as they normally get things open quicker. I went up Glacier and saw a big line up for Spankys as they had not dropped the rope yet. I then decided to traverse over to Chimney and found that not many people had been over their yet. By the time I got back to the top of Glacier Spankys was open and fresh. The snow today was firm dense powder. You would glide on top of it most of the time, but the depth was there when you slashed or came upon a nice wind loaded area […] Conditions Report Peter Wentz | January 19, 2015 0 Comments
Whistler Conditions Report: Fun Runs and Side-Hits Since last week in Whistler, not much has happened. After the rain hit the alpine, it has remained mainly cold on the upper mountain. The upper mountain has received a couple centimeters of new snow in the past couple days freshening things up and making for some smooth sections off of Glacier. I had a good time skiing down the glacier as it remained fairly soft. A couple runs on Spankey’s was fun as well. As long as you pieced together the smooth sections and stayed away from the chunder it was pretty fun. But as soon as came across another track, you would find an ice-sheet and some difficult riding […] Conditions Report Peter Wentz | January 12, 2015 0 Comments
Whistler Conditions Report: Fresh Powder and Fun Times This morning was awesome up in Whistler. The recent storm has brought in around 44cm of snow on the mountain making for some of the deepest snow of the year so far. The weekend was crowded with as it was the last weekend of the holiday season for most. On Monday the crowds seemed to dissipate a bit, however there were still some lines at the lifts as locals looked to get the goods. On Monday, I started the day by doing a couple of Jersey laps. Things were super fun in the morning as the snow was deep. This recent storm opened up a lot of terrain on the mountain […] Conditions Report Peter Wentz | January 5, 2015 0 Comments
Whistler, B.C. Conditions Report: Storm Skiing and Holiday Fun The biggest storm of the winter so far just rolled through Whistler dropping over 70cm over the last week. It really felt like winter up in the mountains this weekend as the storm came in and freshened up and filled in much of the terrain. The storm made for some awesome skiing conditions with powder in most areas in the morning, and terrain getting skied off later in the day. Even later though it was still really good soft, chopped up snow due to constant cold temperatures up high […] Conditions Report Peter Wentz | December 22, 2014 0 Comments
Whistler, B.C. Conditions Report: Alpine Opening This past weekend at Whistler Blackcomb, the alpine opened! People were very excited to get up and into the upper mountain with some fresh snow and good coverage. Saturday was when the Alpine opened with Glacier and 7th Heaven running on Blackcomb. On Whistler Peak and Harmony were open for periods on the weekend. The snow up high was insanely good, as things looked more covered in certain areas than they were late January of last year. Heavy snowfall on Thursday and Friday pasted the mountains with a fresh blanket of nice dense snow that covered up a lot of the upper mountain rocks […] Conditions Report Peter Wentz | December 15, 2014 0 Comments
Whistler, B.C. Conditions Report: Blackcomb Alpine Powder This last week Whistler had an an interesting mix of weather making for some fun skiing. Thursday night was met with about 8cm of new snow on top of some hardpack and ice. This new snow was definitely needed and brought out good skiing to be had all over the upper mountain. Saturday Whistler was expected to get some rain to the top of most open runs and snow in the alpine. It rained for a bit in the morning, but by the afternoon it was an interesting mix of fog and sun that made for nice slush and soupy skiing. Saturday night the temperatures dropped and froze all of the fun slushy snow […] Conditions Report Peter Wentz | December 8, 2014 0 Comments
Whistler, B.C. Conditions Report: Blackcomb Opening Blackcomb Mountain opened up this last Thursday! After a bit of rain and some new snow up high, it was good to get out on the hill. The mountain was not that crowded as both Whistler and Blackcomb were now open. Most areas on the hill are still closed due to low snow. However, you were definitely able to get off the main runs if you were feeling a little adventurous, and willing to avoid some rocks and sticks poking around. With some new snow up high it was nice to be able to get some fresh turns […] Conditions Report Peter Wentz | December 1, 2014 0 Comments
