Pro Surfer Kai Lenny Saved by Surf Helmet

Kai Lenny Helmet

Extreme sports are defined by high speeds and/or high risk and usually are done outside of mainstream sports. Surfing may not be considered extreme by some but that depends on what and where you surf. When you’re surfing at Banzai Pipeline on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, you get a sport with high risk due to the shallow, volcanic […]

Trip Report: Snowbird, UT – “Pipeline Couloir” on July 21, 2023

Report from July 21, 2023 “Pipeline Couloir” at Snowbird, UT yesterday was a buck-wild adventure ski! Maybe the best adventure skiing I’ve ever had anywhere… Rockfalls, waterfalls, evil melted-out black bomb holes, second-thought-inducing steeps, convoluted/corrugated snow, violent pitch changes, unholy spine-chokes, a large rocky waterfall mid-chute, and more rocks-embedded-in-snow than you can shake a stick at. I actually removed about […]

Snowbird, UT, Report: The Taunting “Pipeline Couloir”

Report from Monday, May 23, 2022 High noon and hot, the corn window had just closed.  I was skiing heavy but exciting slush in Snowbird’s taunting Pipeline Couloir—a line everyone sees but almost nobody skis.  The top section was steep and got my blood pumping. My legs were already screaming a hundred feet down it.  Pipeline Couloir – Snowbird, UT […]

Trip Report: Snowbird, UT – “Pipeline”

Today, May 18th 2020, I strolled up Snowbird ski resort in Utah to ski a chute called “Pipeline”. I, like many others, have been staring at this chute for years, but it’s almost never open. “One of the more gawked at and obvious lines at Snowbird and the Wasatch, for that matter.” – Andrew McLean in “The Chuting Gallery“ “Pipeline” […]

Kelly Slater’s Winning Wave @ 2013 Pipe Masters From a Heli

kelly slater pipe

The helicopter that filmed this was a little remote control heli and it nailed this shot. This video is only 19 seconds long, but should still blow your mind. It shows us an angle we never get to see. Kelly Slater won the Billabong Pipe Masters for the 7th time this year and this was a great wave that he scored in the finals. This drop in was crazy steep. Likely one of the steepest take-offs made in Pipeline competition. Kelly Slater wins 2013 Billabong Pipeline Masters and is now a 7-time Pipeline master. Aerial shot of his winning wave during the […]
