Squaw Weekend Video Update: Return of El Nino After one of the longest dry spells of the season, the skiing at Squaw finally returned to winteresque conditions for a few days. Things started off warm and wet, but transitioned to snow Wednesday night delivering around two feet of snow (and very lively and unstable mountains on Thursday). High winds left us on the lower mountain for Friday, but […] Conditions Report Eric Bryant | February 22, 2016 0 Comments

Sunday things tried to go blue, but mainly provided smooth wind […] Conditions Report Eric Bryant | January 25, 2016 2 Comments

Squaw *not* Closing Weekend Video Report: Fun In The Sun Squaw refuses to let go of winter, with their closing date pushed back to this this upcoming Sunday. However, with only Gold Coast remaining on the schedule (due to the fact you likely won’t be able to make it down to Siberia on Saturday) this past Sunday felt a bit like closing day. People got their final rides in on Siberia (which was the first detachable quad in North America […] Conditions Report SnowBrains | April 21, 2015 1 Comment
Squaw Valley Report: The RETURN of Winter Old Man Winter actually decided to make an appearance in Tahoe Easter Sunday, and delivered a tasty 4-10″ of fresh at Squaw Valley. With the new snow and cold temperatures today, the skiing stayed ripping all day with Siberia and the Reverse Traverse holding the best turns of the day. In the afternoon the winds picked up as the approaching storm rolled in, making for some smooth wind buff turns in Siberia Bowl. Patrol also gave us The Palisades at around 1:30 (after the Reverse Traverse crowds died down), and National Chute held some nice fresh turns. Main Chute closed shortly after opening, and Extra […] Conditions Report SnowBrains | April 6, 2015 3 Comments
Still Wintery: Squaw Valley Video Conditions Update Despite falling right back into sunshine and relatively high temperatures at Squaw, the conditions are still really fun. The north facing snow is still wintery, with pockets of powder to be found throughout the mountain. All the hikes were also open yesterday, with some of the best turns of the day hiding out in plain site below the Chimney.[…] Conditions Report SnowBrains | March 5, 2015 3 Comments
Tahoe Storm Delivers, 2+ Feet of SNOW for Squaw! Photo Tour: For the first time this year, Tahoe caught a break and received double the amount of snow forecasted over the weekend. With easily two feet of snow on the upper mountain, the skiing as well as the vibe came alive at Squaw. Snow fell most of Saturday and Sunday brought intermittent clouds and deep snow. As to be expected, the masses were out and hungry for pow but the lines (save Granite Chief on Sunday), remained manageable. On Saturday the only things to open on the upper mountain were Siberia and Shirley (as well as the beginner terrain) […] Conditions Report SnowBrains | March 1, 2015 0 Comments
A Hucking Good Time @ Squaw Valley: Video + Photo Update Yesterday was quite possibly the best day of the year at Squaw Valley. Hanging By A Thread: Squaw Conditions Update + Photo Tour While a week with day time highs in the mid 50’s has done nothing good for Squaw, the skiing is still surprisingly ripping. The majority of the mountain is still nice and smooth, and with high day time temperatures and low nightly temperatures we are in the midst of a nice little corn cycle. The turns off of Headwall and […] Conditions Report SnowBrains | January 10, 2015 0 Comments

5+ Feet Of Snow and Big Avalanches: Squaw Photo And Video Conditions Update We were all wondering if the reports from Squaw could be true, with rampant rumors of 5+ feet of snow for the upper mountain after this past storm. After closing on Sunday due to heavy rainfall, the doubts were even greater but today we were able to get into the upper mountain and we certainly received every bit of the 5+ feet. Shirley Chutes were almost buried, no more bushes sticking out, and huge slide paths were everywhere[…] Conditions Report Eric Bryant | February 11, 2014 6 Comments
Squaw Conditions: Sleeper Pow Day With Freezing Snain And Milky Pow While the storm didn’t quite produce the totals we were hoping for yesterday at Squaw, things were still skiing quite well. With 3-5 inches of new snow over night, and some wind to smooth things out the skiing in Shirley lake was most ripping. And, Patrol opened up Rainbow Bowl for the first time […] Conditions Report SnowBrains | February 7, 2014 1 Comment
Smooth Chalk, Rough Bumps, and SNOW On The Way: Squaw Photo + Video Conditions Update With the winds picking up as the storm approaches Tahoe, Squaw saw some chalky goodness today which has been conspicuously absent thus far in the season. In particular, the top half of Shirley Lake was harboring some sweet and smooth turns in places (while in other places she was harboring some sporadic and rather icy bumps). Lift Maintenance has also […] Conditions Report SnowBrains | February 5, 2014 0 Comments

Squaw: Upper Mountain Closed Due to Snow Making Pipe Burst The tough times continue at Squaw, with the Upper Mountain shut down yet again this year. This time the closure was due to a snow making pipe burst, causing the upper mountain to be shut down the past two days and likely leaving it closed again tomorrow. And the forecast continues to look dry for Tahoe, with no change in sight. Simply sunny skies and 50 degree temps. […] Conditions Report SnowBrains | January 23, 2014 9 Comments
Triple Over Edge Powder Day @ Squaw: Conditions Update + Photo Tour We were all starting to worry, but it turns out the sky over California can still precipitate. Squaw received a few inches of new snow on Saturday night bringing a very welcome white blanket to the valley and making Sunday the deepest day of 2014. However, it was nowhere near the dump we so desperately need at this point. Highlights […] Conditions Report SnowBrains | January 13, 2014 0 Comments
Sunshine and Slick Snow @ Squaw Valley: Conditions Update + Photo Tour After recovering from a stinky situation, Squaw has continued to ski well despite the startling lack of snow. With cold overnight temps they have been able to continue making snow, which has been our saving grace with daytime highs spiking into the mid 50’s. Coverage on piste remains quite good (save a few spots in the Mountain Run) while skiing off piste has been all but shut down (with the closing[…] Conditions Report Eric Bryant | January 2, 2014 1 Comment
