NOAA: 6-14 of Snow Forecast for Utah in the Next 3 Days

NOAA has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Utah today including Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons.  The advisory goes into effect at 8pm tonight and remains in effect until 1pm on Wednesday. What a Strong El Nino Means for Utah:

Meteorlogist Chris Tomers predictions for the coming Strong El Nino for the West Coast and Utah.

In case you haven’t heard, El Nino is here now, it’s getting stronger, and the this El Nino may be the strongest on record. We know that in California, 4 of the 5 strong El Ninos on record have resulted in above average precipitation, but what does it mean for our snow-crazed friends in Utah? The only information we’ve been able to dig up so far is the last 5 strong El Nino snow totals at the Alta Guard station in Alta, Utah. The Alta Guard station sees an average annual snowfall of 499″. Utah is about to have it’s go with the storm that just dropped up to 2-feet of snow in Lake Tahoe. NOAA is currently forecasting 6-15″ of snow for Little Cottonwood Canyon (Snowbird and Alta) today. Alta has gotten 265″ of snowfall this season and has a 69″ base. What!? | 20″ of Snow Forecasted in Montana & 6″ of Snow Forecasted in Utah Today

You read it right. There is a cold storm coming down from Canada and it plans on dumping 20″ of snow on Montana above 7,000-feet with snow levels as low as 5,000-feet. The leftovers of the storm will hit Utah and drop another 6″ of snow above 8,000-feet. Cool temperatures and rain will continue through Wednesday as the next weather system slowly moves through Idaho and western Montana. Snow levels will also lower to between 5000-6000 feet.
