Originally from San Francisco but now residing in Whistler, I like to have fun in the mountains and chase down good snow. Look for me in the Peak chair lift line, slashing pow on Blackcomb, or at your local trail head.

Whistler Blackcomb Conditions Report: Miracle March Continues

jacob 180

Well this has been quite the miracle March up in Whistler. We have basically been hit with snow all month with brief periods of sunlight in between. One week we had over 100cm of snow, and it looks like March has not stopped yet. Recently temps have been a bit warmer than the rest of the month, but that does not mean that there is still no good snow to be found. You simply just need to go higher up on the mountain.

Whistler B.C. Conditions Report: Killer Start to March

slash

March is here and Whistler is looking great these days. To start the month off right the weather man delivered 34cm of snow up top. There was some wind with this snow so it built up to be a lot deeper in some areas and slimmer in others. Some windblown areas had a thick wind slab layer that would be easy to hook up on, so if you are going fast be aware of that.

Whistler B.C. Conditions Report and Photo Tour: Clear Skies and Alpine Chalk

backcountry

This last week Whistler has been in and out of a nice storm cycle. We finally had a good break of weather today and seems like the sun will continue through the week. Recently things did a get a little warm and there is a melt freeze layer near the bottom of Red Chair on Whistler and near the bottom of Spankey’s on Whistler. Above that though the snow is consistent, predictable, and shredable.

Whistler B.C. Conditions Report: Pow Skiing Continues

corner pocket

The last three days in Whistler have been pretty awesome. On Monday the resort got buffed out by wind making everything up high on Whistler ski like it was fresh powder. Then that night we were hit with a solid amount of snow, and some partly cloudy skies for Tuesday. Tuesday was the day to get after it and people for sure did. In the morning it was a bit crowded, but by the afternoon the crowds had left and you were able to roll right onto the chair. By the afternoon on the slopes directly facing the sun the snow got a bit warm and heavy but the majority of it stayed cold and really good to ride.

Whistler B.C. Conditions Report: From Winter Powder to Spring Slush in 24hrs

For family weekend Whistler brought us about 2ft of delicious powder on Saturday and then warmed things up to spring like skiing conditions by Monday. Over the last few days we kind of had every good skiing condition there is, from awesome pow, to cold skied out snow, to soft sun baked slush.

Whistler B.C. Conditions Report: Alpine Going Off w/ Powder

spine

Powder and some more pow. Whistler has been going off the past couple days. The most recent storm came in a little warm, creating a little crust most of the way up the mountain, but then it cooled down really quick and left the top with some cold blower snow. In the alpine the crust layer is not really there and you are just left with some great skiing.

Whistler B.C. Conditions Report: Treeline Pow Today, Alpine Pow Tomorrow

Whistler has seen another storm roll through. This most recent storm in Whistler came in a bit warmer than others we have seen this winter however it still left us with 32cm over the last 48 hours. This new snow had a variable freezing level on the mountain, however I would say anything we road above the bottom of Emerald Chair on Whistler had some good wet powder.

Whistler B.C. Conditions Report: Powder Ripping w/ More in the Forecast

The storms are back in town again in Whistler. With about 15cm overnight and 25cm over the weekend the powder has been good. The snow was somewhat heavy coastal snow, but it was still awesome to be out and get in the air a bit. We went all over the mountain today from Harmony on Whistler to Spankey’s on Blackcomb and it was tough to go wrong with a run.

Whistler B.C. Conditions Report: What’s Not to Like?

pow

I do not really know how to describe this continuous storm that Whistler seems to be in besides that it is awesome. Every time I go up it just keeps getting better and better. Today was probably the best resort day I have had in a couple years. Low crowds, about 18cm of fresh, and storm rolling in and out all day for refills. It was honestly pretty silly.

Whistler B.C. Conditions Report: Pillows, Pillows, Pillows…

We have had a heck of a week up here in Whistler. This storm has definitely left its mark on the terrain here in Whistler and the Alpine is looking so good! With 150cm over the past 7 days and another 20-30cm over the weekend things cannot get much better. I think that within this past week I have had some of my better powder days I have had in a year or two. And today was pretty insane.

Whistler, B.C. Conditions Report: Deep Snow with 25-35″ Forecast Next 4 Days

The storm has rolled in. On Thursday Whistler was getting pounded with snow all day. However, as with most of the storms that roll into Whistler, it is all a game of freezing levels. The freezing line Thursday was just a few hundred meters from the top of Roundhouse on Whistler, and then a few hundred meters above the bottom of the Jersey chair on Blackcomb. Above freezing line there was about knee deep of nice wet pow and in the alpine the snow seemed to be sticking to everything as long as it was not directly in the strong winds.

Blackcomb Opening Day: Sunny Hot Laps

spinning

Blackcomb Mountain opened today and it was a super good time! I was not sure what the snow was going to be like since it had not snowed in a bit, but was surprised to find super soft and fresh snow. It was definitely wind-blown and anything that was on an open face had a wind crust and funky snow. But in the protected areas the snow was soft, smooth, and awesome to ride. In the morning we were hot lapping chair line of Jersey and having an awesome time. I could not stop skiing to take a picture because it was such a fun time.

Whistler Opening Day Conditions Report: Solid Coverage & Big Terrain

slash

Who does not love an opening day? Nobody! Summer was a good time, fall built the stoke of another winter, and now it is finally here! When October rolled around I was getting a little bit worried about snow in the Sea to Sky and how this winter would turn out. But then November came and just started hammering us with snow allowing Whistler to open up early!

Whistler, B.C. Conditions Report: Still Ripping

Spring time in Whistler always promotes good fun, with long days making it possible to do many activities. The snow is slushy and smooth, the sun is out, goggle tans are in full swing, and everyone is having a good time on the hill.

This spring has been interesting as Whistler Blackcomb decided to leave Whistler open into the late months of winter instead of Blackcomb. This has actually been really fun for me as I rarely ride Whistler. Lapping peak chair with no lines, and doing side hits and wind lips […]

Whistler Conditions Report: All Time April

It is safe to say that April has been the best month of the season for powder. It has been going off in Whistler for the last two weeks, with deep storms and cold temperatures compared to the rest of the winter. The alpine has been all time with new snow every couple of days, making it fresh and fun. There has been some wind with these most recent storms making some pockets super deep, while other ridges are icy and have variable snow. Crowds have been pretty small during the weekdays, and not too bad on the weekends either. This week there have been more people on the mountain and in the bars due to WSSF (World Ski and Snowboard Festival).

Blackcomb, B.C. to Close One Month Early + Whistler Powder Report:

zack carve

This past week has been a mash of snow, rain, freezing levels rising and falling, and clouds. Up high on the mountain has been the place to be for the entire season and that is still true today. Sunday was by far the best snow day we have had in a while. There was over 30 cm of fresh that day with lower freezing levels. It was snowing in the parking lots for some parts of the day which has not occurred in a hot second. It was socked in all day so people were sticking to the trees and up high near rocks for visibility.

Over the night rain continued […]

Whistler Conditions Report: Alpine Powder Returns

air

Over the last week, winter has returned in the alpine of Whistler with a solid 55cm of new snow. There has not been much opportunity to shred powder in Whistler this year, so people came up over the weekend to get after it.
On Saturday, there was about a foot of fresh on the mountain. It was finally time to get after it. We rode Spankey’s almost the entire day and had an awesome time. Some areas had windblown pockets making it feel even deep than it was. Of course this means that there were also some ridges and exposed small pitches that were really icy. The snow lower down, by the bottom of […]

Whistler Conditions Report: Refresh

Airplane turn

Winter has not had its last word yet. It seems like the March warm and dry spell has finally concluded. This last weekend we saw storms up high in the alpine dropping off about 15cm of snow. This new snow definitely made the mountain more lively and gave some life back into Whistler.
The story of this winter has been stay high up on the mountain. That is still the case now with this past storm having a freezing level of around 1600m. Snow in the alpine has been good, while tree line has had some wet snow and rain. Below this however there has just been rain, making the lower mountain mainly dirt.

Whistler Conditions Report: Slushy Days

essex

Within this past week Whistler has seen a lot of sun and some clouds mixed in here and there. The mornings may be a bit icy and hardpack all over the mountain but as long as you wait until the afternoon and ski the sunny slopes you will have a good time skiing off of the groomers. These warm temperatures have made the snow pretty fun by later in the day with some soft spring skiing. Shaded areas have remained firm but the grooming has been on point making it possible to rip super fast without any worries.
I have been skiing on 7th for most days and the Coulior on the skiers right side by the […]

Whistler Conditions Report: Sunny Days

lupton jump

Over the last week the sun has been shining down on Whistler Blackcomb. It has made it possible to go deep in the alpine, go shred some soft spring snow in the sun on resort, or hit up the park. As long as you played it smart and stayed away from the shaded skied out areas you were bound to have a sunny, fun time.

I spent most of the last week going to Blackcomb. The groomers were super-fast and smooth in the morning, so I would start the day with a few laps on 7th Heaven or Glacier. I have not spent much time laying in hard groomer turns before, but it […]
