Report from April 23, 2021

We rolled up to Alyeska ski resort in Girdwood, AK at 2pm yesterday in blazing sunshine, light winds, and temps in the 40s and 50s.

Alyeska has gotten 735″ of snowfall this season – the most in North America and maybe the world…

Right away, I ran into my old friend Ethan from Squaw.

I was stoked!

He’s originally from Homer, AK, and has been home getting ready for fishing season.

We started off the day ripping big mountain laps with his buddy Kyle and our buddy Owen Leeper.

Things were still a touch firm at 2pm so we a couple of top to bottom laps before diving into the plethora of jumps that Alyeska has littered all over the upper mountain.

I was feeling a touch beat up and slow, but the rest of the crew was going off.

Backflips, front flips, and 360s everywhere…

Local kids kept stopping Owen to take photos with him which was cute and fun.

The local kids were also throwing HUGE backflips all over the mountain with not a care in the world what the landings looked like and they were stomping everything.

The Alyeska Freeride Team is legit.

At about 4pm some of us moved into apres-ski mode at the bar at the Seven Glaciers mid-mountain bar.

The view up there is incredible.

Turnagain Arm’s glistening waters and towering Alaskan peaks in every direction.

Alyeska really is spring skiing paradise.

We’ve had more fun than you can shake a stick at the past 2 days and we can’t wait to get back out there again today for closing day!

Alyeska will reopen on weekends in May starting May 8 until May 23.

Tomorrow, we head back into the backcountry each day until we head back to the real world on Thursday.
